Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Demands Firm Action Against Hoax Spreaders: No Compromise!

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago has requested that law enforcement officials take firm action against the spread of hoaxes and slander regarding the current national situation. Djamari made the statement after chairing a coordination meeting with National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, Indonesian Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and State Intelligence Agency Chief Herindra at the Kemenko Polkam office on Wednesday, 5 August 2026. “We are trying to see if such things (security disturbances) occur and fall into the category of criminal violations. We have spoken with the Police Chief and the Attorney General, and we will take action,” Djamari said during a press conference. Djamari explained that parties who deliberately spread hoaxes and slander to disrupt security stability ahead of the 81st Indonesian Independence Day celebrations must not be tolerated. He stated that legal action must be taken against the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent. “In such law enforcement, we certainly have no compromise. Once they disrupt the interests of the wider community, we will take very measured actions. It cannot continue like this, and whoever frequently commits such acts should come to their senses,” he said. Furthermore, Djamari reminded the public to be wary of hoax news. If left unchecked, it could pollute people’s minds and ultimately lead to hatred. “If it truly pollutes and poisons the minds of the nation’s children, pessimistic people will emerge who view this nation negatively. That is not the case. Let us teach the nation to be resilient in facing such things,” he stated.
