Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Backs Police Probe into Three Corruption Cases
Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago has spoken out regarding the police investigation into three corruption cases. He stressed that the government supports the investigation being carried out professionally and without discrimination.
Djamari also highlighted the importance of maintaining synergy among law enforcement agencies in Indonesia. He stated that the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office share the same goal in eradicating corruption in the country.
“What we must continue to maintain is synergy and coordination between agencies. Communication must be continuously built to prevent potential misunderstandings. Fundamentally, the National Police, the Attorney General’s Office, and other law enforcement institutions have the same goal, which is to uphold justice, including in the eradication of corruption,” Djamari said in a written statement to journalists on Friday (10/7/2026).
“Each institution has duties and authorities regulated by law. Therefore, synergy and coordination must be continuously strengthened so that this common goal can be achieved more effectively,” he continued.
Djamari also urged the public to trust the investigation process to the police. He expressed confidence that the work of law enforcement officers in these cases can be accounted for.
“The public should remain calm and not be provoked by various baseless narratives. Place your full trust in the law enforcement officers who are currently working in accordance with the provisions of the legislation,” he said.
Furthermore, the Coordinating Minister stressed that the legal process must be given room to proceed independently without pressure or intervention from any party. The government respects the applicable legal mechanisms and believes that all law enforcement officers share the same commitment to upholding justice.
He added that the police investigation into the three corruption cases aligns with the Prabowo administration’s vision of eradicating corrupt practices. Djamari also encouraged fair and proportionate law enforcement against those who are later named as suspects.
“Corruption has long been a challenge for the nation. The government under the leadership of President Prabowo has a strong commitment to carrying out comprehensive reforms,” explained Djamari.
“There is no room for anyone proven to have violated the law. Regardless of their institutional origin or position, every violation will be processed and dealt with firmly in accordance with the applicable legal provisions,” he asserted.
Previously, Polda Metro Jaya conducted searches at several locations on Wednesday (8/7) related to three alleged corruption cases involving PLN, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel. Among the locations searched were a money changer and the de’Clan Signature café in the Cipete area of South Jakarta, as well as a house in the Bogor area of West Java.
Police seized a number of items during the search, including gold bars and foreign currency worth billions of rupiah.
The series of searches was related to the three alleged corruption cases. The Head of the Corruption Eradication Corps (Kakortas Tipikor) of the National Police, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, stated that the investigation of these cases was being handled jointly with the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya.
He said the cases relate to alleged corruption in coal procurement that triggered blackouts, the ASABRI case, and the debt settlement case from PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of the state-owned enterprise Krakatau Steel.
Most recently, police searched a shop house in Cipete, South Jakarta. Investigators were seen exiting the premises carrying various pieces of evidence, including a large suitcase, a yellow tote bag, and a computer monitor.
Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stressed that the investigation into the alleged corruption cases at PLN, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel is under the direct attention of President Prabowo Subianto.
“This is the President’s attention for the alleged corruption cases to be a focus for the police to carry out disclosure and investigation processes. This series of searches is part of the investigation process to find and collect evidence to fulfil the requirements of the investigation,” said Budi Hermanto following the search at de’Clan café, Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/7).
Budi stated that the searches were part of uncovering alleged coal corruption at PLN that caused blackouts in Sumatra some time ago, as well as the ASABRI and Krakatau Steel cases. The corruption cases under investigation include bribery, gratification, and money laundering.
“The Corruption Eradiction Corps together with Polda Metro Jaya are conducting investigations into alleged corruption cases involving bribery, gratification, and money laundering. Several locations were searched simultaneously today, including this location at de’Clan café and Coin Money Changer. This is related to the alleged corruption in the PLN coal blackout, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel,” he said.
