Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Assures Situation is Safe and Under Control, Urges Public Not to Be Misled by Hoaxes
Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam), Djamari Chaniago, has assured that the security situation throughout Indonesia is highly conducive and under the full control of the government and law enforcement apparatus. Djamari conveyed this after gathering Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) General (Ret.) Herindra at the Kemenko Polkam office on Wednesday (5/8).
Djamari emphasised that synergy with the TNI Commander, the National Police Chief, and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) continues to run optimally to safeguard security stability for the smooth running of the government’s priority programmes. “The domestic situation is very solid and developments within the country remain under our control. The control of the TNI Commander, the National Police Chief, BIN, and intelligence is continuously monitored to ensure conditions are safe. We are handling all of this so that the public remains calm,” Djamari said in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8).
Djamari revealed that the portrait of community life in the country, both in Jakarta and other regions, continues normally without being affected by alleged or predicted security disturbances deliberately circulated by irresponsible parties. He even shared his personal experience when directly reviewing citizens’ economic activity centres, such as traditional markets and shopping centres, which remained busy and full of mobility. “The condition of our society is not as portrayed on social media. The daily activities of residents in Jakarta and other areas are proceeding as usual. I went with my wife to see a traditional market and it was perfectly safe, and going to the mall was also safe. Public mobility continues to run,” he stated.
Djamari called on all parties to stop the spread of provocative content that triggers baseless fear within the community. According to him, hoaxes and slander circulating in the digital space have the potential to pollute the minds of the nation’s children and foster pessimism towards national development. He also invited all elements of society and the mass media to jointly maintain order and filter every piece of information before sharing it. “I invite everyone, stop such actions because they are very detrimental to community life. Let us increase our vigilance against hoax news. Do not let it pollute the minds of the nation’s children until optimism and courage to stand tall emerge,” Djamari concluded.
