Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago has assured that the domestic security situation is under control. He made the statement in response to widespread information on social media that has caused public concern.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting titled ‘Synergy in Maintaining National Political and Security Stability’ at the Kemenko Polkam office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026), Djamari said the situation was ‘very, very stable’. The meeting was attended by Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, along with the Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Muhammad Herindra.

“The domestic situation is very, very stable. And the developments occurring domestically are still under our control,” he stated during a press conference. “Under the control of the Commander, under the control of the Police Chief, under the control of BIN and intelligence, these issues are also continuously monitored and we always coordinate to refresh the conditions we are facing at any given time.”

Djamari acknowledged the public anxiety triggered by the massive circulation of information regarding demonstrations on social media. He confirmed that such content was a hoax and deliberately spread to influence the public. “If we look at what is currently developing in our society, there is so much news on social media that is somewhat disturbing, causing concern in the form of hoaxes, disinformation, and hatred. We have agreed to convey to the public not to be disturbed by these issues,” he stressed.

He further emphasised that public activities were proceeding normally. “The condition of our society, their activities and their daily lives, are continuing as usual. Nothing has happened that was suspected, predicted, or even circulated to cause concern,” Djamari explained.

Moreover, Djamari stressed that the government would not be complacent. He stated that security stability is the key to ensuring that government programmes can run smoothly amidst global uncertainty. “We are maintaining this so that the programmes desired and hoped for by the public can proceed and run quickly. This is highly dependent on our security conditions and security stability,” he said. “It is our collective responsibility, but we are at the forefront, safeguarding the public.”
