Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago has confirmed that videos of demonstrations circulating on social media, narrated as taking place at present, are hoaxes.

According to Djamari, the videos were deliberately uploaded to mislead the public with false information.

“I declare that video untrue. There is nothing like it anywhere in Indonesia; such hoaxes exist in our homeland. Perhaps it happened in the past. At present and going forward, there is nothing of the sort,” Djamari asserted at a press conference at the Menko Polkam office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

In fact, he continued, the situation in the capital and several parts of Indonesia remains safe and under control to this day.

He added that activity at shopping centres in various locations has also been observed as normal, indicating that the situation remains well maintained.

“The domestic situation is very solid, and developments in the country remain under all of our control,” he explained.

He also urged the public not to be provoked into spreading various pieces of information whose veracity has not been confirmed.

It is understood that videos of demonstration action in Jakarta have been circulating on social media. However, the events depicted in the videos took place last year.
