Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure Supports Bogor's Readiness to Host West Java Provincial Sports Week 2026
Bogor — Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has pledged support for Bogor’s readiness to host the West Java Provincial Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Provinsi, Porprov) in 2026 through strengthening sports infrastructure and public open spaces.
According to AHY, hosting Porprov in November 2026 represents an important opportunity for the local government to accelerate improvements to sports facilities and green open spaces.
“The Mayor informed me that Bogor will host Porprov in November 2026. I am confident the Mayor and his team are continuing to prepare the venues and sports facilities,” said AHY following a visit and exercise session with residents at Sempur Field in Bogor on Friday.
He noted that increasingly densely populated cities require adequate open spaces to support community activities whilst also developing athletes.
“It is estimated that 70 per cent of the population will eventually live in cities, and one of the things constantly sought is open space — green open space and blue open space,” he stated.
AHY added that developing green open spaces and public spaces not only improves environmental quality but also supports sports activities and youth development. He noted that the central government had previously launched a movement to develop green and blue open spaces as part of sustainable urban area development.
“We must maintain and preserve green open spaces, but we must also continue preparing sports facilities like these,” he said.
According to AHY, Sempur Field exemplifies a public space utilised by residents for various sporting activities, ranging from jogging and basketball to rock climbing. He expressed hope that such facilities could be further improved to support the Porprov event and athlete development in the region.
“Hopefully there will be further improvements to the jogging track to make it smoother, as it is certainly used frequently,” he remarked.
AHY expressed hope that Bogor can continue to be a comfortable city for all generations, particularly young people with high energy and creativity who can achieve excellence in sports.
Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim stated that the city is preparing for the 2026 Porprov event. He explained that various competition venues and supporting infrastructure are being prepared and will be refined according to implementation standards to ensure smooth execution of Porprov 2026.
AHY emphasised that central government support will continue to be directed towards strengthening urban infrastructure that supports sports activities, environmental quality, and public comfort.
