Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure: Mangroves Can Be Developed into Tourist Destinations
Tangerang, Banten - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), stated that mangroves can be developed into tourist destinations. “In the future, we want to continue developing them. Currently, mangroves are one of the popular tourist destinations for local communities, and there is also a jogging track that can be used for exercise,” said AHY in Ketapang Village, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Thursday. He added that sport tourism and ecotourism are important for increasing community activities while also providing economic value. The Coordinating Minister visited Ketapang Urban Aquaculture in Ketapang Village, Mauk Subdistrict, Tangerang Regency, Banten. AHY said Indonesia currently faces challenges from climate change and global warming, making the mangrove planting approach very important. “Earlier, we walked through the dense mangrove corridors. This is also an effort to protect the area from abrasion, which is very good because it is a challenge for archipelagic countries including Indonesia, especially in a situation full of threats from climate change and global warming. Therefore, protection through mangrove planting becomes very important,” he stated. As information, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said that concern for mangroves can start from cleaning rubbish in the area and continuously planting. Mangroves are important because they can capture carbon, prevent abrasion, and become tourism infrastructure through mangrove ecotourism. According to him, this shows the great economic potential of preserving mangroves as green tourism infrastructure by all parties.
