Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure: Fishermen's Housing in Tangerang Helps Boost Productivity
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has revealed that the fishermen’s village development programme in Tanjung Anom Village, Mauk Subdistrict, Tangerang Regency, Banten, is helping to increase the productivity and income of fishermen in the area.
“Hopefully, this collaboration between the government, institutions, and all sectors of society (in building housing) can prosper the fishermen. In addition, we can strengthen it over time,” said Coordinating Minister AHY after directly inspecting the progress of housing construction in the Fishermen’s Village in Tangerang on Thursday.
He stated that this strategic Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih development programme has been successfully realised through collaboration between relevant parties. The fishing area, which was previously unplanned, has now become a safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful settlement.
“And this is a collaborative project. In line with the vision, mission, and directives of President Prabowo Subianto, we are certainly striving to encourage and ensure that the quality of life of the community, including our fishermen, improves day by day,” he explained.
In addition, the development programme will be supported by several facilities for the fishermen, such as sanitation, health centres, schools, ice factories, and embankments for protection against sea abrasion.
“So the result of this collaboration usually allocates around Rp5.5 billion for the repair and construction of 110 houses. Approximately, the land area is 60 square metres and the building is 30 square metres,” he said.
In this regard, AHY said, the fishermen receive their respective homes through cooperative institutions that can ease them. Because each unit can be instalment-paid at Rp140,000 per week. So the tenor is approximately four years ahead.
He revealed that in the future, the government is committed to continuing support for the acceleration of completing this strategic programme, both in resolving land status and a number of other supporting facilities that will improve the welfare of the fishing community.
“So moving forward, we certainly highly appreciate the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Deputy Minister, who continues to oversee the transformation of the Fishermen’s Village development, which is a priority programme of President Prabowo, the Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih, including the one here,” he said.
