Jakarta — Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) visited the construction sites of Community School projects in Singkawang and Pontianak cities, which are being developed by PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA). The visit aimed to directly assess progress on educational facilities expected to expand access to quality education for the community.

During the visit, AHY emphasised that educational development focuses not only on strengthening intellectual capacity but also on shaping the character of young people.

“Building good-quality education is not only about intellectual development but also character formation. Community Schools are expected to break cycles of poverty whilst preparing Indonesia’s future generation for success,” AHY stated.

The Community School programme is expected to become a key solution for expanding educational access, particularly for disadvantaged groups. Through quality, character-based education, the programme aims to create broader opportunities for Indonesian children to achieve better futures.

PT Wijaya Karya Director General Agung Budi Waskito expressed the company’s full support for the government’s efforts in delivering quality educational infrastructure with direct community impact.

“WIKA is committed to supporting infrastructure development that is not only structurally sound but also provides broad social benefits, including support for educational facilities such as Community Schools, which are expected to improve the quality of Indonesia’s human resources,” Waskito said.

The Community School development also aligns with the Government’s Asta Cita (eight-point agenda), particularly in strengthening human resource development and improving national education quality as the foundation for advancing Indonesia’s competitiveness.

The visit served as an opportunity to ensure that Community School construction in Singkawang and Pontianak proceeds according to schedule, so that it can soon be utilised to support educational quality improvement and expand learning access for communities.
