The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has ensured that all Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) being dispatched to Japan on 3 April 2026 will receive social security protection through the Social Security Organising Agency for Employment (BPJS Employment). “I want our PMI to continue working comfortably. Income certainty and protection. Indeed, this BPJS Employment social protection is continuously being optimised,” said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar in Jakarta on Wednesday. He stressed that social protection is an essential component in ensuring the comfort and safety of PMI while working overseas. His side is also encouraging the involvement of all stakeholders to strengthen the protection system for PMI, making it increasingly comprehensive and accessible. “This social protection cannot operate independently. It must involve all parties so that its benefits are truly felt by our migrant workers,” said Muhaimin Iskandar. “I invite all ministries and agencies to work hard to ensure that every PMI in various countries receives adequate protection access,” said Muhaimin Iskandar. This step is part of the government’s commitment to improving the quality of governance for the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers, while also strengthening global confidence in Indonesian labour. Previously, 200 prospective PMI were dispatched to Japan through the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) scheme in the manufacturing sector as an initial phase supported by state-owned enterprise (BUMN) CSR funding. This activity is a concrete implementation of the SMK Go Global initiative, designed to prepare Indonesian talent to compete at the international level and serve as a representation of the quality of national labour. The prospective PMI were dispatched through various collaborative programmes, consisting of 50 people via the CSR programme of PT Angkasa Pura, 30 people via the CSR programme of PT Kereta Api Indonesia, and 120 people through facilitation by the Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Company (P3MI).
