Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Pratikno, is pushing for the comprehensive implementation of the National Movement for Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children (RANA), spanning the family level, schools, public spaces, and the digital realm to prevent acts of violence against children. Speaking after the launch of the RANA National Movement in Malang, East Java, on Monday, Pratikno said the RANA Movement is the realisation of President Prabowo’s directive, who wants all children to receive comprehensive security guarantees. “Today we are organising a national movement whose aim is to guarantee safe and comfortable spaces. We need to affirm that the government, under the President’s orders, must guarantee safe and comfortable spaces, whether in the family, in educational units, in public spaces, and in digital spaces,” said Pratikno. Through this movement, the government is inviting all parents, teachers, and local governments to jointly guarantee the existence of safe and comfortable activity spaces for children. Pratikno conveyed that one of the key emphases within the RANA Movement is the prevention of violence against children. On that occasion, the Coordinating Minister also urged children not to be afraid to report if they become victims of physical, verbal, sexual, or digital violence to their parents or school authorities. “Because, if a child experiences violence, the impact is tremendous on their growth and development,” he said. Pratikno assured that the government is indeed continuously carrying out its commitment to provide massive protection to all children in Indonesia. “The government is always present to ensure children grow up in a safe, comfortable, and pleasant atmosphere,” he said. Meanwhile, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, said the RANA Movement must be implemented sustainably to prevent cases of violence against children. She noted that anticipating child violence cannot rely solely on the government’s role but requires the involvement of the entire community in the regions. Moreover, according to records from the Ministry of PPPA, the majority of violence cases where children are victims actually occur in households and schools. “As many as 71 per cent occur in spaces that should be the safest and most comfortable for children, yet violence occurs a lot in these spaces, namely within households and educational units,” said Arifah. Therefore, the government stressed that the RANA Movement must truly be used as a joint step to form a child violence prevention system.
