Coordinating Minister for Food Ensures Subsidised Fertiliser Distribution in Sigi Ahead of Planting Season

Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan has confirmed that the distribution of subsidised fertiliser in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, is running smoothly and can be redeemed by farmers before the planting season. The assurance was delivered during the ‘Rembuk Tani Pupuk Indonesia’ event in Sigi on Saturday.

Minister Zulhas stated that the smooth distribution of subsidised fertiliser is part of the government’s efforts to maintain agricultural productivity. He noted that fertiliser availability before the planting season is a crucial factor in increasing yields and strengthening national food security. ‘The government is here to ensure that farmers’ needs are truly met. Whenever I visit the regions, I always meet with farmers to ensure government policies are working well,’ he said.

He explained that the government has carried out various improvements in the governance of subsidised fertiliser distribution to make it simpler, faster, and more accessible for farmers. These reforms include regulatory simplification and a 20 per cent reduction in the maximum retail price for all types of subsidised fertiliser. According to him, this policy has had a tangible impact because fertiliser is now available before the planting season in sufficient quantities and at more affordable prices, giving farmers certainty to begin planting without fertiliser constraints.

‘Thank God, we have confirmed that fertiliser is available before planting, the quantity is sufficient, and the price has been discounted. Farmers can be asked directly about this,’ said Minister Zulhas. He added that maintaining fertiliser availability is a significant achievement amid global conditions still overshadowed by supply chain uncertainty. While several countries are experiencing fertiliser shortages, Indonesia has been able to maintain a more than adequate supply to meet farmers’ needs.

‘In the midst of global geopolitical dynamics, other countries are experiencing fertiliser shortages. We, thank God, have more than enough fertiliser,’ he said. He added that timely fertiliser distribution has a direct impact on increasing national agricultural productivity. According to him, fertiliser availability before the planting season can increase agricultural production by around 7 to 8 per cent, whereas delays in distribution will reduce harvest yields.

At the same event, Dwi Satriyo Annurogo, Director of Operations at PT Pupuk Indonesia, expressed gratitude for the government’s support in enabling more efficient distribution of subsidised fertiliser. He said the facilities provided by the government for farmers have led to more optimal absorption of subsidised fertiliser. Nationally, subsidised fertiliser uptake as of 30 June 2026 reached 49 per cent, or 4,855,894 tonnes out of an allocation of 9,845,686 tonnes. Specifically in Central Sulawesi, the redemption rate reached 42 per cent, or 68,459 tonnes out of an allocation of 161,400 tonnes, comprising Urea, NPK Phonska, special cocoa NPK, organic fertiliser, and SP-36. To support more optimal absorption, Pupuk Indonesia has prepared subsidised fertiliser stocks in Central Sulawesi totalling 14,805 tonnes as of 2 July 2026.
