Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment urges regional heads to continuously improve and enhance performance

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM) Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar has urged regional heads and local governments across the country to continuously improve and enhance their performance in serving the public. “We must move quickly and make improvements in all sectors,” said Menko Muhaimin while attending the National Governance Awards 2026 event in Jakarta on Friday evening. According to him, an event like the National Governance Awards 2026, which is given to outstanding regional heads, serves as one of the moments for regions to address shortcomings and accelerate performance improvements. “This must become motivation for all local governments and ministries/institutions,” he stated. Furthermore, Menko Muhaimin also touched on the importance of effectiveness and efficiency in every policy introduced by local governments. He then reminded local governments to always be productive public servants focused on the real needs of the community. “Everything must be effective, efficient, and on target. The government must be present as a servant that truly addresses the needs of the people,” he said. “Through mechanisms of giving rewards and punishments, this is very effective in encouraging all regional heads to display optimal performance,” he added. It is known that the National Governance Awards serves as a forum for reflection on the journey of decentralisation in Indonesia. In addition, the event also aims to ensure leadership at the provincial, city, and regency levels operates transparently. The assessment in this appreciation event is not only around aspects of economic growth. The judging panel also conducts comprehensive evaluations involving assessments in various crucial sectors, such as education, health ecosystems, and good governance. The main assessment benchmarks in the event include improvements in the quality of human resources (HR) through various capacity-building efforts for citizens as well as digital transformation in public administration services.
