Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment: Extreme Poverty to Decline in 2025
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, stated that extreme poverty in 2025 has declined. “Alhamdulillah, extreme poverty has successfully decreased. From 1.26% in March 2024 to 0.78% in September 2025. Approximately 0.48% of the extreme poor population, alhamdulillah, has moved up a class,” said Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar at the Ministerial Level Meeting in Jakarta on Monday. This step is part of the implementation of President Prabowo Subianto’s directives as well as the execution of Presidential Instruction No. 8 of 2025 on Poverty Alleviation and the Eradication of Extreme Poverty. Presidential Instruction No. 8 of 2025 mandates the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment as the coordinator leading the achievement of that target. A total of 47 ministries and agencies, as well as all regional governments, are involved in the assignment under that instruction. Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar acknowledged that there are still several challenges that need to be addressed immediately. “More than 774,000 families in the decile 1 group have not yet been reached by programmes, especially in areas like Kulonprogo, Garut, Bogor, Cirebon, and Cianjur,” he said. In addition, there are still 8.1% of families that have not received assistance, as well as 60.2% of decile 1 families that have only received one to two programmes.
