Coordinating Minister Djamari Denounces Viral August Protest Video as Hoax

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, General (Purn.) Djamari Chanianto, has confirmed that a video circulating on social media calling for demonstrations in August is a hoax. Djamari conveyed this during a press conference at the Kemenko Polkam office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026). “I declare that video is not true. It does not exist in the territory of Indonesia, in our homeland. There are hoaxes like that, perhaps from past issues. At this moment, there is nothing,” said Djamari. Djamari also emphasised that based on the results of the investigation, no information regarding calls to protest was found. However, Djamari stressed that if any actions violating criminal regulations are discovered, they will be dealt with firmly. “The installation of fences, there is none of that. The response from the relevant regional heads has been conveyed, both in Surabaya and in Jakarta. There is no connection to the issues being circulated, the rumours that are to come, there is nothing,” Djamari stated. “So all of that is for their own security interests. And that too has been deemed not to have a permit, as was the case in several places,” he continued.
