Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratiktingo, has asserted that the development of the national sports industry, specifically in the Mandalika Region, must act as a locomotive driving community prosperity.

“There needs to be an adequate ecosystem where global achievements serve as the locomotive, but the Indonesian people must be the carriages being pulled along. We must ensure that the locomotive does not run alone,” Pratikno stated during the launch of the book ‘The Impact of MotoGP Mandalika and the Grand Design for Sports Industry Development’ at the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas office in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Pratikno highlighted that world-class events such as MotoGP are essentially just an entry point. The primary objective is to create broad and tangible benefits for the entire population.

These benefits include strengthening public health, building national character through values of sportsmanship and unity, producing superior human resources, and creating job opportunities through inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

In terms of inclusivity, local residents are encouraged to play an active role, and the benefits of development must be tangibly felt by the community. It must be ensured that the public can enjoy both the economic outcomes and the public facilities within the region.

“We must work together to ensure Mandalika is not enjoyed by only a few people, but by everyone; the surrounding community must enjoy this globally competitive bustle,” he said.

In addition to the equitable distribution of economic benefits, the development of this international-standard ecosystem must prioritise sustainability to preserve nature and secure the community’s future.

The Coordinating Minister specifically encouraged that Mandalika be maintained as a green zone that also functions optimally for water security.
