Jakarta, VIVA – Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, commonly known as Cak Imin, has instructed the board of directors of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (the Workers’ Social Security Agency) to immediately expand membership coverage.

The primary focus he emphasised is the protection of workers in the informal sector and Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). The informal sector and migrant workers constitute vulnerable groups that are frequently overlooked by formal protection schemes.

Cak Imin made the remarks after inaugurating Prihati Pujowaskito as President Director of BPJS Kesehatan (the Health Social Security Agency) and Saiful Hidayat as President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan at the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment office in Central Jakarta on Friday, 20 February 2026.

“The main challenge is the expansion of membership coverage, particularly our genuine attention to the informal sector and our responsibility towards migrant workers. Migrant workers, in accordance with the law, are entrusted entirely to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan,” said Cak Imin.

According to him, social security protection is directly correlated with national productivity. Workers who feel secure will perform at their best, ultimately creating a competitive business ecosystem.

Beyond expanding membership, Cak Imin also stressed the importance of law enforcement against companies that continue to neglect their obligations.

“Compliance enforcement for companies must be carried out consistently and firmly. Claims services, including unemployment benefits, must be swift, transparent, and well-targeted,” he said.

Cak Imin expressed his hope that the new leadership of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan would bring about significant improvements in service speed, ensuring there are no further complaints regarding administrative complexity in the disbursement of workers’ entitlements.
