Coordinating Minister Cak Imin: Target of 0% Extreme Poverty by 2026
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Coordinating Minister (Menko) for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) is targeting extreme poverty to reach 0% by 2026. The government has designated 88 districts/cities as priorities for poverty alleviation to achieve the 0% target. “The target for extreme poverty in 2024 is 0.99%, this year it is targeted at a maximum of 0.38 or 0% extreme poverty by the end of the year. Meanwhile, alhamdulillah, in 2025 it is already at 0.78%,” said Cak Imin during a press conference at the Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026). Cak Imin emphasised his optimism that the target of eliminating extreme poverty by 2026 can be achieved. Furthermore, for the national poverty rate, Cak Imin aims for it to decrease to 5% by 2029. “We are optimistic and confident that extreme poverty will be 0% in 2026, and poverty at 5% in 2029. Several special policies will be announced by the President himself later,” said Cak Imin. Cak Imin revealed that poverty rates in Indonesia have indeed continued to decline since 2024. “I provide the data for more accuracy. So, our poverty in 2024 was 8.57%. In 2025, it dropped to 8.25%, and today we will continue to pursue it to 7.36% this year 2026, 7.36%,” he added.
