Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition, Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that the formation of this new ministry aims to oversee priority programmes amidst uncertain geopolitical dynamics.

“The President considers it vital for priority programmes related to downstreaming and the energy transition, as part of our global commitment to the Paris Agreement,” Bahlil said when met at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) office in Jakarta on Thursday.

Bahlil noted that the establishment of the Coordinating Ministry for Downstreaming and Energy Transition is also driven by uncertain geopolitical conditions and global economic dynamics that demand the presence of clean energy.

He explained that the awareness of the need for comprehensive and measurable coordination to realise priority programmes amidst geopolitical turbulence was the primary driver behind the formation of this new ministry.

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Bahlil Lahadalia as the Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition, concurrently serving as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, during a ceremony held at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

As a new position, Bahlil was inaugurated as stipulated in Presidential Decree Number 104P of 2026 regarding the Dismissal and Appointment of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the Red and White Cabinet 2024-2029, which was established on 30 September 2026 by President Prabowo Subianto.

Following the swearing-in, Bahlil signed the inauguration minutes, witnessed by President Prabowo, who subsequently co-signed the document.
