Coordinating Minister Airlangga Remembers Try Sutrisno: Very Calm in Facing National Issues
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto paid his respects at the residence of the late sixth Vice President of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, in Menteng, Central Jakarta. Airlangga remembered Try Sutrisno as a national figure who remained remarkably calm when addressing the nation’s various challenges.
“In essence, we have lost a national figure who was also, well, very calm in facing various challenges,” said Airlangga at the residence in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Airlangga recalled Try Sutrisno’s tenure as Vice President during a critical period in Indonesia. He noted that Try Sutrisno always paid attention to matters of national concern.
“During his tenure as Vice President in a critical period for Indonesia, namely the 1993-1998 period, national issues were certainly a concern for him, as well as matters of development and the dual function of the Armed Forces at that time,” he said.
Try Sutrisno is regarded as a figure who had a strong interest in constitutional matters. He was also noted for his consistent attention to national unity.
“He was active as a national figure, particularly given his concern for national unity and matters related to the constitution, which is why he frequently offered advice and commentary regarding constitutional issues and matters of national unity,” he added.
It is noted that Try Sutrisno passed away at RSPAD Gatot Subroto Military Hospital. He died at the age of 90 at 06:58 WIB this morning. His remains are planned to be buried at the National Heroes’ Cemetery in Kalibata, South Jakarta.
