Coordinating Minister Airlangga invites Mexico to support Indonesia's CPTPP membership

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has invited Mexico to support Indonesia’s accession process into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). He made the statement whilst receiving a visit from Mexican Ambassador to Indonesia Francisco de la Torre Galindo at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta. “Indonesia is currently in the CPTPP accession process and considers that support from all CPTPP members, including Mexico, has an important influence on the smooth running of Indonesia’s accession process, also bearing in mind that the CPTPP organisation is consensus-based,” Airlangga said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. Coordinating Minister Airlangga conveyed the progress of Indonesia’s CPTPP accession process, including the important achievement regarding the plan to commence preparation discussions for Indonesia, which was agreed upon at the 10th CPTPP Ministerial Meeting on 26 June 2026 in Vietnam. Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the accession process in a transparent, constructive manner and in accordance with the provisions and high standards applicable within the CPTPP. During the meeting, both parties discussed the development of Indonesia-Mexico trade and investment relations, which continue to show a positive trend. This is demonstrated by the bilateral trade value in 2025, which was recorded at approximately US$3.5 billion, a significant increase compared to the previous year. Consequently, both countries agreed that there remains considerable opportunity to expand trade and investment cooperation, as well as strengthen business partnerships. Furthermore, both parties exchanged views on various opportunities to deepen bilateral economic relations, including exploring more comprehensive economic cooperation in the future. Indonesia and Mexico agreed to continue encouraging intensive dialogue to create a more conducive and mutually beneficial trade and investment climate. Ambassador Francisco de la Torre also conveyed the significant potential that can be further developed from Indonesia-Mexico economic and investment cooperation. “There is much potential for cooperation that can be developed between Indonesia and Mexico. Therefore, we invite Indonesian entrepreneurs to invest in Mexico and take advantage of the existing opportunities,” said Ambassador Francisco.
