Coordinating Minister AHY urges youth to understand global trends and climate crisis

South Tangerang (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Menko IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has urged the youth to understand global trends and the climate crisis as a contribution to nation-building.

“I urge the youth to fully comprehend today’s and future global dynamics. Many global trends must be anticipated and mitigated together, including geopolitical tensions causing conflicts and wars, which impact energy, food, and international trade sectors,” AHY said in South Tangerang, Banten, on Monday.

He stated that understanding global issues and the climate crisis would enable the nation’s youth to support improved living standards through quality education.

“We are aware that our planet currently faces serious threats and vulnerabilities from climate change, the climate crisis, and global warming,” he added.

He added that as a nation seeking to withstand global challenges, Indonesia must excel in all areas to become a winning nation. While the government aims for high economic growth, the welfare of the people must remain the top priority.

“However, we must also ensure that development does not cause harm or damage to our earth and environment, as the consequences are severe, tangible today and will worsen for future generations,” he said.

According to AHY, the health sector is also vital for improving welfare, eradicating poverty, and addressing social inequality. While society’s quality of life is increasingly built through quality education.

“Therefore, understanding all this leaves no alternative but to prepare an excellent generation. Human resources (SDM) are crucial. If our human resources are strong and possess good integrity, they can be optimised for the prosperity and welfare of the people, not the other way around,” he said.
