Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) is targeting Soekarno-Hatta Airport to be ranked among the world’s top 10 airports by 2029. He explained that this target is not merely wishful thinking, but is based on a strong foundation. “There is a basis for it, not just wishful thinking. Currently, we are in 22nd position in the world,” AHY said at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development office in Jakarta on Friday. AHY noted that airports such as Changi in Singapore and Narita in Japan have managed to achieve top global rankings. He expressed optimism that Soekarno-Hatta could stand alongside Changi and Narita, citing the airport’s ranking improvement trend over the past three years. “It has been gradually climbing the rankings. Sometimes it goes up by four places, sometimes five, sometimes three. This means there is progress every year,” AHY explained. “So, if we project this to 2029, we hope to be in the top ten in the rankings and also achieve a five-star rating,” he added. Separately, AHY mentioned that the government is continuously evaluating 36 international airports across Indonesia, with several factors under review. “We want to see if their financial performance is profitable and sustainable. Then we check whether they are improving or strengthening connectivity to other regions,” he said.
