Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated that the Proyek Rehabilitasi dan Renovasi Program Hasil Terbaik Cepat (PHTC) Madrasah targets 1,397 madrasahs across Indonesia with a budget reaching Rp4 trillion.

AHY said the programme is a priority of President Prabowo Subianto, based on Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2025 concerning the acceleration of development and revitalisation of early childhood, primary, and secondary education units, the construction and management of Unggul Garuda senior secondary schools, and digitalisation of learning.

According to him, the programme aims to rehabilitate and renovate 1,397 madrasah schools nationwide to improve the human development index. He noted that the government has already completed 548 madrasahs across 26 provinces with a budget of approximately Rp1.3 trillion.

The second phase, a single-year contract, is being carried out in one province in West Kalimantan with a budget of around Rp60 billion targeting 13 madrasahs. Meanwhile, a multi-year contract for 2025-2026 covers the largest portion of 836 madrasahs, with progress currently at 62 percent and a budget of roughly Rp2.35 trillion.

AHY explained that the programme was prompted by the collapse of a building at an Islamic boarding school in Sidoarjo, East Java, which resulted in fatalities. The government is therefore striving to protect students by rehabilitating and renovating madrasahs, underscoring the urgency of the programme and its target to raise the human development index.
