Coordinating Minister AHY Invites Russia to Develop Three Priority Infrastructure Projects
The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), is pushing for collaboration between Indonesia and Russia in the development of priority infrastructure. He emphasised that resilience is no longer merely an option but something that must be engineered through robust infrastructure, energy security, food and water security, and reliable international partnerships.
“As stated by President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia chooses to build friendships with all nations. We believe in dialogue over confrontation, cooperation over competition, and mutually beneficial partnerships for all parties,” said AHY, as quoted from Antara on Friday, 5 June 2026.
Indonesia is inviting Russia and Eurasian nations to strengthen cooperation in developing climate-resilient infrastructure. This cooperation includes the development of coastal technology, early warning disaster systems, sustainable energy, and the Giant Sea Wall project. These projects are part of the national strategic agenda under President Prabowo’s leadership.
The invitation was delivered by Minister Agus Harimurti during the EAEU–ASEAN session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026 in St. Petersburg, Russia. AHY explained that the world currently faces various interconnected challenges, ranging from climate change and global economic uncertainty to supply chain disruptions and increasingly complex geopolitical dynamics.
In such a situation, nations capable of building connectivity while fostering trust will play an increasingly vital role. “Indonesia wishes to play that role, acting as a bridge, a balancer, and a constructive partner in strengthening stability and shared growth,” said the Chairman of the Democratic Party.
AHY outlined three main priorities for Indonesia’s infrastructure agenda. First, the decarbonisation of the transport sector as part of the efforts to achieve Net Zero Emissions targets. Second, the strengthening of strategic connectivity through the integration of ports, logistics systems, and the national railway network. Third, the construction of climate-resilient infrastructure, including the protection of coastal areas through the Giant Sea Wall project.
He also called upon ASEAN and Eurasian nations to strengthen the spirit of long-term collaboration and partnership in facing global challenges. “Let us be the generation that chooses cooperation over fragmentation, resilience over vulnerability, and long-term partnership over short-term gain. Let us build not only a stronger economy but also firmer trust among nations,” he said.
Through closer cooperation between Indonesia and Russia, the government hopes to accelerate the development of more resilient and sustainable infrastructure capable of protecting the population from the impacts of climate change.
