Coordinating Minister AHY Inspects Rehabilitation Progress of Collapsed MTs in Bogor
The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), visited the Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Negeri building in Bogor City. AHY arrived to personally inspect the progress of the rehabilitation and repairs of the MTs building, which had previously collapsed.
“I am currently at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri in Bogor City to directly check the progress of the rehabilitation and renovation of this Madrasah, which has been carried out by colleagues from the Ministry of Public Works, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs,” said AHY in Bogor City on Friday (19/06/2026).
AHY was accompanied by the Mayor of Bogor, Dedie A Rachim, and Deputy Mayor Jenal Mutaqin. AHY noted that there are a total of 127 MTs in West Java targeted by President Prabowo’s priority programme for the rehabilitation and renovation of educational facilities.
“I was informed earlier that the progress of the rehabilitation and renovation of this Madrasah is approximately 95 per cent. Therefore, it will be completed very soon,” said AHY.
“This is one of many Madrasah Tsanawiyah being renovated. In West Java alone, there are 127 Madrasah Tsanawiyah, and across Indonesia, this is part of the ‘quick wins’ programme which is also a priority for President Prabowo Subianto,” he added.
During his visit, AHY toured the premises and engaged in dialogue with students in their classrooms. His arrival was met with enthusiasm from the students, and AHY was seen chatting with several pupils, enquiring about their respective interests and talents.
AHY mentioned that the priority programme for strengthening school infrastructure is a response to the incident involving a collapsed boarding school building in Sidoarjo, East Java, some time ago. The target for repairs includes school buildings under the auspices of both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
“This is also a response to the incident last year in Sidoarjo, East Java. In September last year, a building in an Islamic boarding school collapsed, resulting in fatalities, which was truly heartbreaking,” said AHY.
“We hope that educational facilities—not only those under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, which we are also continuously renovating, but also those under the Ministry of Religious Affairs—will be improved, covering early childhood, primary, and secondary education,” he added.
The Mayor of Bogor, Dedie A Rachim, stated that AHY responded positively to the rehabilitation progress at MTs Negeri Bogor City. Dedie noted that AHY is encouraging the further development of madrasah schools in Bogor.
“He appears to have the desire to continue facilitating how these educational facilities can reach a quality that meets expectations. We are grateful for his presence to inspect the site directly, and he seems quite satisfied with the construction quality carried out by the Ministry of Public Works,” said Dedie.
“The Coordinating Minister also enquired whether it would be possible to add another MTs Negeri Bogor City. This means we will attempt to find suitable land to later propose the construction of MTs Negeri 2 Bogor to the Ministry of Religious Affairs,” he added.
