Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) is focusing the development of the Bali region on four clusters. “I want to focus on four clusters, these four clusters are development efforts for Bali that I hope we can oversee together,” he said during a Regional Development Coordination Meeting for Bali in Denpasar on Monday. The Coordinating Minister stated that the tourism sector is the main cluster, noting that Bali’s tourism successfully contributed Rp176 trillion of the total Rp319.9 trillion in tourism foreign exchange. As 45.8 per cent of foreign tourists arriving in Indonesia in 2025 entered through Bali, the opportunity and challenge lie in how tourism can continue to grow while ensuring nature is not exploited. The second cluster is connectivity, where he highlighted traffic congestion that often becomes a viral issue on the Island of the Gods. The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure stressed that the government must prepare various alternative solutions regarding regular connectivity corridors, especially in the South Bali area, which is a centre of activity, particularly during holiday seasons. Thirdly, he observed that environmental quality is declining due to the large number of tourists, along with problems of waste, water pollution, and coastal abrasion.
