Coordinating Minister AHY: EV Adoption Supports Inclusive and Sustainable Development
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has stated that the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) can support more inclusive and sustainable development in Indonesia. “Besides contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions, the adoption of electric vehicles can also support improvements in air quality, public health, as well as more inclusive and sustainable development,” he said in a statement with Grab Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday. He assessed that the transition towards low-emission mobility requires not only technological support and investment, but also direct public involvement, including online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver partners who serve the public’s mobility needs daily. “For us, an energy transition that embraces the community requires the participation of all parties, including the private sector and mobility actors on the ground,” said Menko AHY. He added that collaboration between the government, the business world, and the community is crucial in accelerating the transition towards a green economy. “This step is aligned with the target of developing the national electric vehicle ecosystem, while supporting Indonesia’s efforts towards Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or sooner,” he said. “Innovation, when carried out together with the community, can be part of the solution to drive energy efficiency and sustainable economic growth in Indonesia,” Menko AHY added. Grab is expanding low-emission mobility solutions that remain easily accessible to the public through the addition of electric vehicle fleets. Through a combination of EV fleet development, more energy-efficient service features, and support for driver partners, Grab aims to ensure sustainability is not just a corporate commitment, but also becomes part of users’ daily choices. “As the largest EV fleet operator in Indonesia, as of May 2026, Grab’s EV fleet has reached more than 28,000 units, double the number from last year. By the end of 2026, we are committed to further increasing the number of EV fleets by more than three times compared to the previous year,” said Grab Indonesia CEO Neneng Goenadi.
