Coordinating Minister AHY: Eco-friendly materials drive sustainable development
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono is encouraging the use of more environmentally friendly building materials as part of efforts to realise sustainable infrastructure development in Indonesia. According to AHY, the construction sector plays a strategic role in supporting national economic growth because it can create jobs, increase the use of domestic materials, and drive economic activity in various regions. “Infrastructure development not only improves connectivity, but also expands employment, increases material usage, and drives economic growth across all regions of Indonesia,” AHY said at the opening of IndoBuildTech Expo 2026 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang. He noted that infrastructure development is no longer solely focused on physical aspects, but must also consider environmental sustainability. Therefore, the use of more environmentally friendly materials and technology needs to become part of the national development ecosystem. According to him, collaboration between the government and industry players is key to delivering innovations that can support sustainable development targets while strengthening the competitiveness of the national construction sector. AHY assessed that the IndoBuildTech Expo 2026 serves as an important platform to bring together industry players, associations, academics, and the government in introducing various innovations in more efficient and sustainable building materials. “Going forward, development must be able to meet the needs of society while preserving environmental sustainability. For this reason, innovation and the use of more environmentally friendly materials are very important,” he said. IndoBuildTech Expo 2026 takes place from 8 to 12 July 2026 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, and features hundreds of companies from the building materials, construction, and infrastructure technology sectors. The exhibition showcases the latest innovations, including water-based coating products, low-emission building materials, and technologies that support green development and energy efficiency from Propan Raya.
