Coordinating Minister AHY Calls for SOE Consolidation to Support Industrial Estates

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has called for the consolidation of state-owned enterprises to support the management of industrial estates.

“I also specifically asked earlier how SOE consolidation relates to the management of industrial estates, particularly strategic industrial estates in Indonesia, of which there are quite a number,” AHY said after attending the Danantara Indonesia Supervisory Board meeting at Wisma Danantara, Jakarta, on Thursday.

According to him, the effort remains aligned with the SOE transformation agenda to become more efficient and better targeted. Moreover, the move is believed to be capable of generating new hope that can keep industrial estates vibrant, competitive, and able to compete.

“If we want to have appeal compared with, for example, our neighbouring countries — one could say Vietnam, which is so aggressive now, Thailand, and others — then our industrial estates must also have infrastructure readiness and be more competitive. This is also one of the state’s priorities so that they can be better managed going forward,” he said.

The five-year strategic roadmap is being developed in stages, beginning with consolidation and restructuring, followed by strengthening people development and corporate culture, accelerating innovation and technology utilisation, creating value through corporate actions and strategic partnerships, and ultimately achieving global performance targets.

Through these stages, the Ministry of SOEs together with Danantara are targeting the emergence of Indonesian SOEs that are increasingly resilient, highly competitive, and able to compete at the global level, including entering the Fortune 500 rankings.
