Riau Islands Deputy Governor Nyanyang Haris Pratamura attended the Chinese New Year 2577/2026 Welcome Night celebration held at the Bumi Indah Complex in Nagoya, Batam, on Monday evening (16/2/2026).

Towards the end of the programme, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono joined after attending a similar event at Swiss-Belhotel Harbour Bay in Batam.

Coordinating Minister AHY subsequently joined the peak of the Chinese New Year 2577 celebrations in the Nagoya business district, together with thousands of residents who packed the event.

The Chinese New Year Welcome Night featured an entertainment stage with various art and cultural performances, barongsai and lion dance attractions, a Chinese New Year SME bazaar, and culminated in a fireworks display.

On the occasion, Coordinating Minister AHY said that the Year of the Fire Horse should bring enthusiasm and positive energy.

He noted that Batam, as a multicultural city, is known as a gathering place for various ethnicities, religions, races, and cultures living in harmony.

“Batam is a miniature of Indonesia that applies the principle of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and must be able to continue strengthening the spirit of unity so that the harmony and tolerance that already exists is always maintained in Riau Islands Province,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Nyanyang expressed great appreciation to the Indonesian Chinese Social Association (PSMTI) of Batam for transforming Nagoya’s appearance with thousands of red lantern lights typical of Chinese New Year.

“This is the embodiment of tolerance and diversity reflected through the Chinese New Year celebrations of our brothers and sisters who are celebrating their special moment amidst the highly pluralistic Riau Islands community,” the Deputy Governor affirmed.

The Deputy Governor explained that the Chinese New Year moment is not merely a celebration of Chinese culture alone. More than that, it is also a strong symbol of tolerance and diversity that is always well maintained throughout the Riau Islands Province.

The Riau Islands is a unique and strategically located territory inhabited by people of diverse religions, ethnicities, races, and cultures. With such diversity, the province is dubbed a “Miniature of Indonesia”.

The proverb “Where you stand, there you uphold the sky” serves as a guiding principle for anyone who resides here. Efforts to maintain these values of tolerance have produced increasingly positive development outcomes, he concluded.

Also present at the event were Transmigration Minister Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanegara, Riau Islands Police Chief Inspector General Asep Syafrudin, several Riau Islands provincial coordination forum leaders, Batam Mayor Amsakar Ahmad along with Batam city coordination forum officials, PSMTI chairpersons from across the Riau Islands regencies and cities, and thousands of Batam residents.
