Coordinating Minister AHY Aims for Passengers to Feel at Home and Shop Comfortably at Soetta Airport While Waiting for Flights
The government has set a target for Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) to be ranked among the world’s top 10 best airports by 2029. Regarding this, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated that his ministry will enhance the comfort aspect at Soetta Airport. He noted that several airports which have long been in the world’s top 10 provide an additional experience for their passengers. “If we learn from a number of international airports in countries that have already entered the top global rankings, they have gone beyond ordinary service,” AHY said at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development office in Jakarta, quoted on Friday 26 June 2026. He said international airports in other countries are able to make people or air passengers feel at home walking around and spending their money. “Making them feel at home, even spending money, or in other words shopping, spending their money at the airport itself,” AHY stated. “Especially while waiting for their flight. They can shop because it is comfortable, and there are also many choices, and that also adds to the experience,” he added. Besides improving comfort at the airport, AHY said the government will also improve connectivity from the airport to tourist destinations. “Both by land and also by train, everything must be better prepared,” AHY revealed. He cited the example of the Ministry of Transportation developing a water taxi service in Bali. This effort is being undertaken to ease traffic congestion in Bali. “In Bali, we will develop a water taxi through the Ministry of Transportation. This is also expected to bypass travel time or ease congestion,” he said. “So upon landing, one can head directly to tourist locations in Bali. That is one example of why connectivity is important,” AHY concluded.
