Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono urged Muslims and Islamic organisations to increase production of essential goods and daily necessities. ‘Don’t think about marketing. The government has established many Desa and Kelurahan Merah Putih KDMP cooperatives that can market products produced by the community,’ he said at the opening of Persis Ramadan Expo 2026 at Trans Studio Mall, Bandung, on Friday, 6 March 2026.

He revealed that the government has built 1,100 KDMP across Indonesia. All of these KDMP are equipped with warehouses, retail outlets, stock-handling equipment, and four-wheeled vehicles. In the outlets, planned to be managed like modern retail, it is planned to sell 4,000 items of basic needs and daily necessities, including products made by the community, especially UMKM.

‘I hope that around 2,000 item products sold in KDMP outlets come from the umat and Islamic organisations. After all, the profits from KDMP will be returned to the community,’ he explained.

Ferry added that the formation of KDMP continues. The target is to rebuild 30,000 KDMP in the next two months. ‘By the end of the year, the target is that KDMP will be established and built to 80,000,’ he affirmed.

To limit modern retail to villages: ‘For the empowerment of the economy, I will continue to push for restrictions on the scope of modern retail. Their presence must be limited and must not enter village environments. There is a rule banning them from opening within a 500-metre radius of traditional markets. In reality, the rule is often violated and they open shops within market areas,’ he said.

At the event, Ferry welcomed Persis Ramadan Expo 2026 organised by the Central Executive Board of Persatuan Islam. It is hoped that this first event will continue in subsequent years.

Ferry admitted that after visiting several outlets at the expo there are products with potential to be marketed widely, including mineral water, soap products and shampoo.

‘The Ministry of Cooperatives strongly supports Persis’ efforts to encourage the growth of entrepreneurs and empower UMKM. Therefore, today, we, together with Persis, also signed a memorandum of cooperation,’ he added.

Jeje Zaenudin, General Chairman of PP Persis, explained that Persis Ramadan Expo is an effort to gather businesspeople, particularly the younger generation of Islam. ‘There are many businesspeople among Persis. So we created this expo so that businesspeople can be known to the public and socialised,’ he said.

There are more than 50 products on display, ranging from agriculture, plantations, culinary, home care, to skincare.
