Cooperative Minister Says Thousands of Indian Pickups Have Been Distributed to Red and White Village Cooperatives
Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono stated that currently, 3,135 Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperatives (Kopdeskel Merah Putih) have completed their physical construction and facilities. These thousands of Kopdeskel Merah Putih have received vehicle facilities in the form of one pickup truck and one lorry each.
“Those that are 100% completed, 3,135 have been built. They have already (received the vehicles), it can be checked directly,” said Ferry when met at his office in South Jakarta, as reported by detikFinance on Monday (30/3/2026).
The vehicle facilities received by Kopdeskel Merah Putih are procured by PT Agrinas Pangan with a total of 105,000 units. Thousands of these imported vehicles from India have been distributed to Kopdeskel Merah Putih in stages.
“Already thousands (of vehicle units have arrived in Indonesia), yesterday some have already been distributed to the Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperatives and yes, it feels quite adequate and can be used,” explained Ferry.
Currently, there are around 34,000 Kopdeskel Merah Putih units still under construction. Ferry targets that within the next two months, the physical construction of these 34,000 Kopdeskel Merah Putih can be completed.
“34,000 (Kopdeskel Merah Putih) that are being built, which will be finished in the next 1-2 months, also their operational preparations,” added Ferry.
Previously, PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara imported 105,000 pickup trucks from India. Hundreds of thousands of these pickups will be used for Red and White Village Cooperatives (Kopdes Merah Putih). The President Director of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, explained the reason for importing Indian pickup trucks.
“The first reason is that local production has been around 70,000, so if we take all from local, it would disrupt other logistics industries and so on. Therefore, to maintain harmony, we open opportunities to provide choices to the community so they have alternatives, thus we can obtain vehicles at a fair price,” said Joao in response to a detikcom question in Jakarta on Friday (20/2/2025).
