The Minister of Cooperatives (Menkop), Ferry Juliantono, has praised the Upland Subang Farm Cooperative for achieving a significant milestone with the symbolic export of fresh mangosteens to China for the eighth time. In this shipment, the Upland Subang Farm Cooperative exported 3 tons of mangosteens, bringing the total transaction value since the first shipment to IDR 6.6 billion.

Menkop Ferry emphasized that the export of agricultural products from the cooperative in Subang Regency demonstrates the cooperative’s ability to compete in the global market. The Upland Subang Farm Cooperative also plans to expand its business to include the packaging of canned pineapple products for export.

“This activity proves that Subang Regency is a remarkable region because it can export various commodities. We are ready to help ensure that it can meet the pineapple export demand from countries in the Middle East,” said Menkop Ferry at the Mangosteen Export Launch Event by the Upland Subang Farm Cooperative to China, Thursday (26/2).

The Ministry of Cooperatives’ support for the Upland Subang Farm Cooperative extends beyond policy and includes financing. Menkop Ferry encouraged the Revolving Fund Management Agency (LPDB) to provide financial support to the cooperative.

With this financial support, Menkop hopes that the quality and quantity, as well as the diversification efforts of the Upland Subang Farm Cooperative, can be carried out according to its business plan. With sufficient capital, the cooperative is also expected to be able to purchase agricultural products at better prices, thereby improving the welfare of farmers.

“I am confident that this Upland cooperative can buy from farmers at better prices, improve its management, and export to various countries,” he said.

Based on the assessment of the cooperative’s proposal and business processes by the LPDB, the initial funding that can be provided is estimated at around IDR 4 billion. Subsequently, the value of the financing that can be provided is estimated to reach IDR 20 billion.

“Later, when this cooperative can be developed, we will encourage its financing to reach IDR 20 billion, but of course, it must go through a process of continuous incubation and assistance,” he said.

Menkop added that the successful export of mangosteens by the Upland Subang Farm Cooperative is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision to make cooperatives the driving force of the village economy and the main actors in bringing local (village) products to the global market.

Furthermore, Menkop mentioned the cooperative ecosystem that is being built, including the Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperative, which will soon be operational and can be part of the ecosystem for developing the Upland Subang Farm Cooperative.

Ferry hopes that this cooperative can be connected to a network of village cooperatives throughout Indonesia, so that its products are not only exported but also marketed domestically through the cooperative network. “So, it should not only be exported but also sold through the Merah Putih Village Cooperative throughout Indonesia. Local products from Subang or its surroundings can also be sold through the Merah Putih Village Cooperative,” said Menkop.

Ferry emphasized that support for cooperatives is part of the spirit of the founding fathers to make cooperatives the pillar of the national economy. In closing, Menkop Ferry hopes that Subang can export other superior commodities, especially pineapples. (H-1)

The flesh of the mangosteen fruit contains pectin and polyphenols, while the skin contains xanthon, tannins, flavonoids, and anthocyanins, which function as natural antioxidants.

Mangosteen originates from Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, and is now also cultivated in various tropical regions of the world.
