The Minister of Cooperatives (Menkop) Ferry Juliantono stated that the distribution of imported trucks and pickups from India is expected to support the operations of Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperatives (Kopdes/Kel Merah Putih) that are already ready and complete.

“Trucks and pickups have already been distributed to the Red and White Village Cooperatives, and they seem adequate and can be used to support cooperative operations,” said Menkop Ferry when met on the sidelines of the Halalbihalal event at the Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) RI in Jakarta on Monday.

Furthermore, Ferry explained that the distribution of 105,000 trucks and pickups from India is being carried out in stages following the progress of physical construction of the Kopdes/Kel Merah Putih.

“This is done in stages, according to the phases. Once a Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperative has completed its physical building and is equipped with the necessary tools, it can immediately be provided with trucks and pickups,” he said.

“We are actually still prioritising the national automotive industry. But if the national automotive industry can only meet part of the needs, the rest we are forced to obtain from other countries,” said Ferry.

“We will see later regarding the proportion of local production and imports. For now, we use what has come in to complete the operations, because that is an obligation. Once the physical buildings, warehouses, and outlets are ready, they are immediately equipped with vehicle facilities,” he added.

Previously, on Sunday (29/3), Menkop Ferry revealed that the trucks and pickups that have already been imported from India will still be distributed for the operations of Kopdes/Kel Merah Putih that are ready to operate.

“Now, thousands of trucks and pickups have been distributed to the Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperatives (around 2,400 cooperatives),” he said.

Previously, it was reported that Agrinas Pangan imported trucks and pickups from India to support the operations of the Red and White Cooperatives.

This import consists of 35,000 units of 4x4 pickup cars produced by Mahindra Ltd, as well as 70,000 units from Tata Motors, comprising 35,000 units of 4x4 pickups and 35,000 units of six-wheeled trucks. The total value of the import amounts to Rp24.66 trillion.
