In Surabaya, Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono hopes that large-scale cooperatives such as the Indonesian Port Cooperatives (Kopelindo) can serve as “big brothers” to the Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperatives (KDKMP). Ferry stated that the development of KDKMP requires synergy and assistance from various parties and sectors, including large-scale cooperatives.

“I also hope there is an opportunity to discuss the possibility of Kopelindo becoming a big brother to KDKMP in Surabaya or East Java,” he said in a statement received in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday (29/3/2026).

According to him, with their superior assets, capabilities, and business experience, large-scale cooperatives like Kopelindo will be able to guide KDKMP. It is known that Kopelindo’s assets have increased from Rp712 billion to Rp788 billion, revenue from Rp262 billion to Rp270 billion, remaining business results from Rp19.4 billion to Rp20.3 billion, and membership reaching 6,040 people from 5,825 people.

He gave an example that in East Java there are around 8,949 KDKMP, which means there will be 8,949 retail outlets and they will need distribution centres in every district/city. In the future, Kopelindo can synergise with Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD) or with other business partners to become distribution centres.

“Becoming a distribution centre that can collect goods from retail managed by KDKMP in Surabaya or KDKMP in the East Java region,” he said.

That step, he said, will be able to form a good cooperative business ecosystem because it can mutually develop.

“If SOEs have SOE Synergy, then in cooperatives we learn to build cooperative synergy,” said Ferry.
