The Jakarta High Court has handed down an appeal verdict for lawyer Ariyanto Bakri, the defendant in a bribery case concerning a release verdict for a cooking oil case and money laundering. Ariyanto’s 16-year prison sentence has been upheld. The ruling amended the Corruption Court’s decision at the Central Jakarta District Court regarding the amount of restitution and the subsidiary imprisonment, as well as the status of evidence, according to the Supreme Court’s directory of rulings. The appellate judges sentenced Ariyanto to pay a fine of Rp 600 million, with a subsidiary of 150 days’ imprisonment. The judges increased the restitution amount payable by Ariyanto to Rp 21,602,138,412, with a subsidiary of seven years’ imprisonment. The period of arrest and detention already served by the defendant is to be deducted entirely from the imposed sentence. The appeal verdict was handed down on Monday, 8 June, by presiding judge Budi Susilo, with members Margareta Yulie Bartin Setyaningsih and Bragung Iswanto. The clerk for the appeal case was Budiarto. Previously, the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Ariyanto to 16 years in prison, a fine of Rp 600 million with a 150-day subsidiary, and restitution of Rp 16.25 billion with a six-year subsidiary.
