PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), through Daop 1 Jakarta, has once again emphasised the rules on using power sockets inside trains following the viral incident of a passenger cooking with a high-power electrical device during the journey. KAI reminds passengers that the sockets in the carriages are not for cooking appliances, but only for low-power electronic devices. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, explained that the electrical power in the trains is designed to support main facilities, such as air conditioning, lighting, automatic door systems, and passenger information devices. “The sockets are only for mobile phones, laptops, tablets, or other supporting devices with low power consumption,” Franoto clarified. Devices such as [high-power cooking appliances] have high power consumption and are not permitted for use inside the train. According to Franoto, using such devices can cause an overload on the electrical system. If an overload occurs, the system may trip, shutting down main facilities and disrupting the comfort and safety of the journey. Therefore, using high-power electrical devices on the train is considered a misuse of facilities that can endanger many parties. This reaffirmation comes after a video went viral on social media showing a passenger using a cooking appliance inside the train. KAI views this action not only as a violation of rules but also as potentially threatening the safety of all customers. “We emphasise that every facility must be maintained together. Misuse of facilities can endanger journey safety,” Franoto stated. KAI permits the use of the following devices, which are considered safe and low-power: [low-power devices like mobile phones, laptops, tablets]. As long as the devices do not have heating components or high power, their use is safe and does not disrupt the train’s electrical system. In addition to sockets on the train, KAI also provides charging facilities in station areas. In some major stations, coworking spaces are now available, allowing passengers to work more comfortably before departure. Franoto hopes that passengers understand the importance of maintaining public facilities and refrain from actions that could disrupt operations or endanger safety.
