Convection warehouse in Koja destroyed by fire due to electrical short circuit

A house used as a convection warehouse on Jalan Kelapa Muda, Tugu Utara Village, Koja, North Jakarta, was destroyed by fire on Sunday, allegedly due to an electrical short circuit. “The object that caught fire was a house converted into a 25-square-metre convection warehouse. It is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit,” said Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations for the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-Department, in Jakarta on Sunday. The North Jakarta Fire Department deployed nine fire engines with 25 personnel to extinguish the blaze, which engulfed the building at 4.07 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. Officers managed to localise the fire and conduct cooling operations. The fire was successfully extinguished at 5.32 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. “The fire has been successfully extinguished,” Gatot said. According to witness statements, the fire grew from the unoccupied house, which the owner used as a storage warehouse. “Seeing the fire, residents attempted to extinguish it and contacted the authorities,” he said. Losses from the fire are estimated to have reached Rp150 million.
