Convection warehouse in Koja destroyed by fire due to electrical short circuit

Jakarta (ANTARA) - A house used as a garment warehouse on Jalan Kelapa Muda, Tugu Utara subdistrict, Koja, North Jakarta, was destroyed by fire on Sunday, reportedly due to an electrical short circuit.

“The object that burned was a house converted into a 25-square-metre garment warehouse. It is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit,” said Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations for the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-department (Gulkarmat), in Jakarta on Sunday.

North Jakarta Gulkarmat deployed nine fire engines with 25 personnel to extinguish the fire that engulfed the building, which broke out at 04.07 Western Indonesia Time.

Officers managed to localise the flames and carry out cooling operations. The fire was extinguished at 05.32 Western Indonesia Time.

“The fire has been successfully extinguished,” said Gatot.

According to witness accounts, the fire grew in a house that was unoccupied and being used by the owner as a storage warehouse.

“Seeing the flames, residents attempted to put out the fire and contacted the authorities,” he said.

Losses from the blaze are estimated at Rp150 million.
