JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The lawyer for former Deputy Minister of Manpower (Wamenaker) Immanuel Ebenezer, alias Noel, Aziz Yanuar, reported the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and its enforcement ranks to the KPK Oversight Board (Dewas) on Friday (27/3/2026).

The report concerns the controversy surrounding the detention of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in the alleged corruption case involving hajj quotas.

In his report, Aziz Yanuar represented himself as Chairman of the DPP of the Islamic Brotherhood of Advocates.

Aziz stated that his side submitted documents containing several matters violated by the KPK leadership and its ranks. Among them are the basic values of justice, professionalism, transparency, and governmental ethics.

He said it is very rare for suspects in alleged corruption cases to receive privileges or special treatment such as house arrest.

Aziz said reports to the KPK Dewas are usually followed up within 1-2 weeks.

He hopes the sanctions imposed by the Dewas will have a deterrent effect on the KPK leadership and its ranks.

“We leave the sanctions to the Oversight Board, of course. There are actions that I believe must be firm against them. Of course, they have their own mechanisms; we don’t want to intervene further, but we hope the sanctions will have a deterrent effect,” he said.

Previously, Kompas.com contacted the KPK Dewas regarding the change in Yaqut’s detention status. However, as of the publication of this news, there has been no response.

It is known that Yaqut’s detention status was changed to house arrest on 19 March 2026, after previously being detained at the KPK Detention Centre since 12 March 2026 following his designation as a suspect.

The change was made at the request of the family and was only announced by the KPK on 21 March 2026, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.

Upon arriving at the KPK’s Red and White Building on 24 March 2026, Yaqut claimed that the change to house arrest was his request.

He also expressed gratitude for being able to use the moment to pay respects to his mother during Eid al-Fitr.

“Our request. Alhamdulillah, I was able to pay respects to my mother,” said Yaqut.

In this case, Yaqut is charged as a suspect in the alleged corruption of the 2023-2024 hajj quota with state losses amounting to Rp 622 billion.
