Controversy Over Rp25 Billion Official Residence Renovation: East Kalimantan Governor's Explanation
The renovation of the East Kalimantan Governor’s official residence (rumdin) costing Rp25 billion has drawn public attention. Regarding this matter, Rudy Mas’ud has spoken out. He explained that the Rp25 billion budget is not solely for renovating the Governor of East Kalimantan’s residence, but also includes the deputy governor’s residence and supporting facilities such as pendopo. The budgeting process was directly handled by the Regional Government Budget Team (TAPD). “So essentially, the Rp25 billion is not just for the governor’s house, but also for the deputy governor’s and the pendopos there, because there’s a guest house,” said Rudy to reporters at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday, 8 April 2026. Rudy explained that the official residence had not been occupied for more than 10 years. The renovation process for the official residence is now complete. “The official residence has been there for quite some time. We repaired the official residence. There were many things missing, from electronics to toilets that needed fixing, lights and so on, including televisions and sofas that were no longer usable,” he said. “We restored it to accommodate all activities of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government,” he added. On the other hand, Rudy mentioned that he chooses to live in the official residence because it is more efficient and close to the Governor’s Office. “I live in the official residence. In East Kalimantan, we stay in the official residence. Because the office is right next door, we just walk,” Rudy concluded.
