The Department of Education and Culture (Dikbud) of West Lombok (Lobar) has responded to the controversy surrounding salaries for part-time Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) teachers receiving only Rp 250,000. The figure has drawn protests as it is significantly lower than the approximately Rp 760,000 that these teachers received when they held honorary status.

Najamuddin, head of the Department of Education and Culture of West Lombok, clarified that the Rp 250,000 salary applies to teachers holding Teacher Certification (Serdik). According to him, these teachers also receive a Professional Teacher Allowance (TPG) of Rp 2 million from the central government.

“Thus, the total income received by certified teachers is Rp 2,250,000, not Rp 250,000,” Najamuddin stated in a written statement to detikBali on Thursday (12 March 2026).

Najamuddin said the policy was adopted to equalise teacher salaries within the West Lombok Education Department. Non-certified teachers receive a salary of Rp 500,000.

Additionally, the change in the salary scheme occurred because part-time PPPK teachers can no longer be paid using the Operational Assistance Fund for Educational Units (BOSP). Salaries can now only be funded from the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD).

He stated that the APBD of West Lombok is currently limited and able only to allocate an additional Rp 1.57 billion for part-time PPPK salaries.

“This is a form of protection by the regional government to ensure that employee rights are paid without waiting for uncertainty in central regulations. Thus, the total budget allocation for part-time PPPK salaries has increased to Rp 6,853,920,000,” he said.

Previously, information circulated regarding part-time PPPK teacher salaries in West Lombok amounting to Rp 250,000. This figure was stipulated in the Work Agreement (PK) for part-time PPPK issued by the West Lombok Education Department.

One part-time PPPK teacher, who asked not to be named, considered the amount unfair as it was lower than when she held honorary status.

“For all of us, it is unjust, and we have already signed it with stamps. Now suddenly there is a change like this. When we were still honorary workers, the salary was larger compared to now, after obtaining a Civil Service Number (NIP),” she said on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

The teacher from Gerung hopes that her salary would be adjusted to match her current status and not be lower than when she held honorary status.

“Our hope is that all of us who now have an NIP should have our salaries adjusted to match colleagues who also have an NIP. We have an NIP but a miserable salary; this NIP is only a mask,” she stated.

Hendra Herianto, vice-chair of Commission I of the West Lombok Regional Parliament (DPRD), said he has received complaints from several teachers regarding the Rp 250,000 salary stipulated in the work agreement with the West Lombok Education Department.

“Several people have reported it. What they submitted was Rp 250,000,” he said.

According to Hendra, the salaries for part-time PPPK teachers should be based on the minimum of their previous salary or not less than Rp 760,000.

“Previously, the benchmark was their previous minimum salary of Rp 760,000. But this is now at Rp 250,000,” he explained.

Hendra said the DPRD would summon the Education Department along with relevant regional government organisations (OPD) to discuss the policy.

Meanwhile, Najamuddin declined to comment further on the policy and requested that clarifications be provided through the West Lombok Department of Communication and Information (Kominfo).
