Contributing to geothermal development, ATR/BPN receives award
The Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR)/National Land Agency (BPN) has received an award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) in appreciation of its collaboration and synergy in supporting geothermal development in Indonesia.
“This award is recognition that the Ministry of ATR/BPN has made a tangible contribution to geothermal development in Indonesia,” said Deni Santoso, Expert Staff for Bureaucratic Reform at the Ministry of ATR/BPN, in Jakarta on Thursday.
The “Outstanding Government Collaboration” award received by the Ministry of ATR/BPN was presented as part of the 10th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention and Exhibition (IIGCE) 2026.
The Ministry of ESDM expressed appreciation to all parties deemed to have made tangible contributions, including through the role of the Ministry of ATR/BPN in handling various land aspects required for geothermal development.
Deni Santoso explained that the Ministry of ATR/BPN’s support is provided through a number of aspects. At the initial stage, the Ministry of ATR/BPN supports land acquisition for geothermal development projects, including projects classified as National Strategic Projects (PSN).
Furthermore, support is also provided in order to ensure legal certainty over land used in geothermal development in Indonesia.
“Some geothermal development projects are classified as PSN and fall under the category of public interest. Therefore, our role begins with land acquisition. Once completed, we also grant land rights to provide legal certainty, and if there are land disputes, we must play a role in resolving them,” he said.
The appreciation serves as an impetus for the Ministry of ATR/BPN to continue strengthening collaboration with the Ministry of ESDM and other parties involved in supporting geothermal development in Indonesia.
Support from the land sector is expected to help ensure that geothermal projects proceed with legal certainty, while also supporting national renewable energy development.
