Contrasting Pigai's Stance, TNI Member Reportedly Disrupts Screening of 'Pesta Babi' Film at Unkhair Campus

The forced disbandment of a group screening (nobar) of the film ‘Pesta Babi’ has occurred again. According to the Instagram page of Karfapala Unkhair (Keluarga Besar Arfat Pecinta Alam Universitas Khairun), a man in TNI uniform disbanded the event at Universitas Khairun in Ternate on Monday (12/5/2026). “Forced disbandment by TNI personnel against students during the nobar of the film ‘Pesta Babi’ in the university campus area,” stated the Instagram post on Tuesday. According to the timeline from Karfapala, students were holding the screening of the film ‘Pesta Babi’ when a TNI member in camouflage uniform with ‘Babinsa’ markings arrived without an official letter or dialogue. The TNI personnel demanded the disbandment of the screening activity without a clear reason. The event was deemed intimidating and caused concern among students. There has been no official statement from the TNI regarding the forced disbandment of the film. However, the disruption in Ternate is not the first incident. This prohibition contrasts with recent statements from the Minister of Human Rights, Natalius Pigai. TNI personnel were also reported to have disbanded a nobar event for the film ‘Pesta Babi’ in Ternate, North Maluku, on Friday (8/5/2026). The disbandment was carried out directly by the Commander of Military District 1501/Ternate, Colonel Inf Jani Setiadi. In an Instagram post from @wachtdoc_insta, Jani admitted to monitoring social media due to widespread rejections of the film by Dandhy Laksono and Cypri Dale, which tells the story of the indigenous Papuan community’s struggle and is considered provocative. “What I highlight is the provocative title. The provocative banner. That’s all,” he said while stopping the screening held at Benteng Oranje in Ternate.
