Contrast Between KPK Detainees and Yaqut Celebrating Eid at Home
The detention of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has been returned to the KPK detention facility after a brief period as a house detainee. Yaqut’s return to the facility now raises suspicions of special treatment given by the KPK to him.
Yaqut has been detained by the KPK since Thursday (12/3). Seven days later, on Thursday (19/3), Yaqut’s detention was shifted to house arrest. This transfer occurred two days before the Eid moment.
While Yaqut celebrated Eid at home, dozens of other KPK detainees were still celebrating Eid from the KPK detention facility. Even information about Yaqut disappearing from the facility was conveyed by one of the wives of a detainee after visiting her husband in the facility.
Yaqut Returns to KPK Detention Facility
Former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas spoke out about his status that was briefly house arrest. Yaqut admitted that the transfer of his detention was based on a family request.
“Our request,” said Yaqut upon arriving at the KPK building in South Jakarta on Tuesday (24/3/2026).
Yaqut did not comment much on the house arrest status he received for four days. He said the transfer of his detention allowed him to perform sungkem to his mother during the Eid moment.
“Alhamdulillah, I could sungkem to my mother, to my ibunda,” said Yaqut.
The KPK is known to have resumed detention in the KPK facility against Yaqut in the alleged corruption case of Hajj quotas. Before being returned to the facility, Yaqut underwent a health examination.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the transfer of the type of detention was carried out on Monday (23/3). This process is part of the ongoing investigation needs.
“Today, the KPK carried out the process of transferring the type of detention for suspect YCQ from house arrest back to KPK detention facility detainee,” said Budi in his statement on Monday (23/3).
Yaqut Thanks for Being Able to Celebrate Eid at Home
As he was about to be taken back to the facility, Yaqut expressed thanks. He was grateful to be able to celebrate Eid at home.
“Alhamdulillah, I could sungkem to my ibunda, an extraordinary blessing,” said Yaqut Cholil Qoumas at the KPK building.
Yaqut was re-detained after undergoing a series of health examinations. Yaqut wore an orange vest and was escorted to the KPK detention facility.
