Contraflow on Jakarta–Cikampek Toll Road Officially Halted, Traffic Returns to Normal
JAKARTA - With the end of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming traffic in 2026, traffic engineering on the Trans-Java toll road has also been halted. Not only the national one-way system, but the contraflow system previously applied on the Jakarta–Cikampek toll road section towards Cikampek from kilometre 36 to 70 has also been discontinued. Currently, traffic conditions on the Jakarta–Cikampek toll road section are monitored to have returned to normal in both directions. “After the contraflow traffic engineering was previously applied situationally with an open-close scheme since 17 March 2026, based on field monitoring, the peak vehicle volume occurred on 18 March 2026. Subsequently, from 19 March 2026 shift 3 until 20 March 2026, traffic volume in both directions was observed to be sufficiently controlled, so traffic normalisation was carried out and contraflow was halted,” said Ria on Friday (20/3/2026). Previously, contraflow was implemented situationally with an open-close scheme to alleviate congestion in the Cikampek direction since 17 March 2026. Nevertheless, Ria advised all Trans-Java toll road users to continue prioritising safety during their journeys, ensuring the driver and vehicle are in prime condition, and having sufficient battery, fuel, and electronic money balance before entering the toll road.
