Continue the President's Mandate as Police Chief Leads Simultaneous Corn Planting
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo led a nationwide corn-planting drive in the first quarter of 2026. He emphasised that the activity is President Prabowo Subianto’s mandate in the pursuit of Indonesia’s goal of achieving national food self-sufficiency.
The activity was centred in South Sumatra (Sumsel) and attended by regional police heads from across Indonesia who joined via Zoom. Also present at the site was the South Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, together with several other officials.
In his remarks, the Police Chief said he had reported the plan for the activity to President Prabowo Subianto. He stressed that the programme is not merely ceremonial, but a major mandate from President Prabowo that must be carried out by the entire police force.
“Several days ago I reported to the President about the plan for this event. I asked him whether the programme should proceed, and he ordered us to continue. This is, of course, his mandate and we must implement it properly,” the Police Chief said on Saturday, 7 March 2026.
General Sigit emphasised that the simultaneous corn-planting in the first quarter of 2026 represents the Police’s commitment to realising the national food self-sufficiency programme. In addition to achieving food security, this corn planting is also needed as demand continues to rise in support of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.
“Self-sufficiency in food resilience, particularly for corn, is increasingly needed because there is also the MBG programme and the BGN programme which require adequate livestock feed. Therefore, whether we like it or not, beyond normal needs there is also extra demand,” he said.
On that occasion, the Police Chief expressed thanks to all regional police commands as well as ministries/agencies and other stakeholders who have been actively involved in realising this food self-sufficiency programme.
Commenting on the global political situation—the US-Israel conflict with Iran—the world faces an atmosphere of uncertainty. This also impacts Indonesia’s economy.
“We recall the President’s address some time ago, that to confront a volatile global situation we must be self-reliant, we must stand on our own two feet,” he said.
Therefore, Prabowo’s policy of promoting food and energy self-sufficiency is seen as the right step to facing potential threats ahead.
“And of course, going forward we must truly manage all the natural resources we possess and use them to the greatest extent for the prosperity of the people,” he concluded.
