Secretary of the PSI Patronage Council, Grace Natalie, has been officially reported to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency following her social media post regarding a clipped video of a sermon by the 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK). Representative of LBH Syarikat Islam/SEMMI, Gurun Arisastra, stated that the report relates to the controversy over the narrative accompanying the video uploaded by Grace Natalie on her social media on 13 April 2026. “There are narratives constructed around an incomplete video presented to the public, namely a clip, and narratives built that lead to an incomplete perspective or conclusion in society,” said Gurun Arisastra at Bareskrim Polri, South Jakarta, on Monday (4/5). In the video forming the basis of the report, Grace Natalie highlighted JK’s sermon, which she considered to contain serious issues. “Pak Jusuf Kalla’s statement in his recent sermon at UGM is going viral, to the point where he has been reported to the police. After watching it, yes, his statement is indeed very problematic,” said Grace via her Instagram account @gracenat on Monday (13/4). She explained that the core of her objection lies in JK’s statement discussing why religion is so easily used as a reason for conflict. “According to Pak Jusuf Kalla, both Christians and Muslims believe that dying and killing others is martyrdom,” said Grace. This narrative is what Grace considered a fatal statement, especially coming from the mouth of a highly influential national figure. “This is a very fatal statement, especially uttered by a senior national figure like Pak Jusuf Kalla,” she said. Furthermore, Grace outlined three reasons why the speech is considered fatal. First, she assessed it as a distortion of religious teachings. According to her, the essence of Christianity is love and forgiveness, so there is no justification for murder under any pretext. “First, distortion of religious teachings. The essence of Christian teachings is love. No matter how grave someone’s mistake, they are taught to forgive. Murder or taking a life is not allowed under any pretext,” said Grace. Second, Grace worried that JK’s narrative is highly susceptible to being twisted to legitimise violence in the digital era. “Even if the actual intent was to explain the sociology of conflict. But in the current digital era, it’s so easy for the video to be clipped, edited, and used by extremists to justify radicalism,” said Grace. The third reason is the potential to trigger interfaith tensions and polarisation in public spaces. At the end of her statement, Grace urged Jusuf Kalla to retract the statement, apologise, and clarify to the public. “As a very senior national figure, Pak Jusuf Kalla should be aware that your statement carries higher authority than the opinion of an ordinary person,” said Grace. As many as 40 Islamic mass organisations under the Alliance for Interfaith Harmony have also officially reported PSI cadre and academic Ade Armando, and content creator Permadi Arya alias Abu Janda, to Bareskrim Polri. Gurun Arisastra said the reports relate to the narratives accompanying each of their posts about the clipped video of JK’s sermon at UGM Mosque while explaining conflicts in Poso and Ambon. The report was received and registered under number LP/B/185/V/2026/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 4 May 2026. “LBH Serikat Mahasiswa Muslimin Indonesia and LBH Syarikat Islam along with LBH Muhammadiyah, Hidayatullah, AFKN and other organisations have reported three figures: Ade Armando, then Permadi Arya, and also Grace Natalie,” said Gurun Arisastra.
