Content Creators Required to Have Business Registration Number, New Opportunity for Indonesia's Digital MSMEs
Economist from the University of Indonesia (UI) Adiwarman Karim stated that the inclusion of digital business actors, including content creators, in the 2025 Standard Classification of Indonesian Business Fields (KBLI) could be an opportunity to boost the competitiveness of digital MSMEs to be more competitive. “This policy can encourage the global competitiveness of digital MSMEs,” Adiwarman said in Jakarta, quoted on Saturday (20/6/2026). In the business world, KBLI is typically used to monitor the productivity of each industry segment. Additionally, KBLI is used to map innovation, set wage standards, and prepare applicable policies for industries. With the inclusion of the digital content creator category in KBLI as part of the digital economy ecosystem, economic transformation can be prepared from an agrarian economy towards an industrial economy, and then develop into a digital economy. “This is important to prepare incentives for digital MSMEs that require different incentives compared to conventional MSMEs,” he said. The Vice Chairman of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) said that KBLI in the digital economy sector can also help the government distinguish growth originating from digital MSMEs and traditional MSMEs. Thus, the incentive schemes provided can be more targeted. According to Adiwarman, the content creator business currently has a relatively low entry barrier, allowing Indonesia to compete at the global level with equal technological capabilities.
